The big news in this week's rider transfers is the moves of Carlos Sastre and Denis Menchov to the new Team Geox. Evolving out of the Footon-Servetto squad, the team of Mauro Gianetti may also attract two of Menchov's top domestiques from Rabobank: Mauricio Ardila and Dmitriy Kozontchuk, De Telegraaf reports. Erik Breukink has wished Denis Menchov all the best for the future after the Russian stage race rider left Rabobank after six years with the Dutch squad. 2009 Giro d'Italia champion and two-time Vuelta a España winner Denis Menchov has signed with Team Geox, the squad of Mauro Gianetti confirmed today. The 32-year-old Russian has been with Rabobank since 2005, but will now join 2008 Tour de France winner Carlos Sastre on the Spanish team for the next two years. Rabobank technical director Erik Breukink has suggested that 2005 and '07 Vuelta a España winner Denis Menchov could return to the Spanish Grand Tour following his third place overall in the Tour de France. After finishing two minutes ahead of Samuel Sanchez (Euskaltel) in the all-deciding time trial from Bordeaux to Pauillac, Denis Menchov (Rabobank) will be the one joining overall winner Alberto Contador (Astana) and Andy Schleck (Saxo Bank) on the podium on the Champs Elysées in Paris on Sunday. Samuel Sanchez (Euskaltel-Euskadi) is drawing inspiration from the result of a time trial in the 2007 Vuelta Espana as he tries to limit his losses to Denis Menchov (Rabobank) in today's Bordeaux time trial and hang onto third place overall in the Tour de France. Sanchez won the 20km time trial, around the town of Villalba on stage 20 of the 2007 Vuelta, beating Menchov by 12 seconds. Denis Menchov is happy with his form ahead of the Tour de France after he clocked fifth place in the Dauphiné time trial in Sorgues. Denis Menchov (Rabobank) made an early exit from the Tour of Belgium on Wednesday. The Russian rider withdrew just 30km into stage 1 according to the team's website, rabosport.nl . He pulled out on a wet, windy first day of the race. Menchov was hoping to make his comeback to racing after suffering bronchitis. Rabobank is taking its top names, Giro d'Italia winner Denis Menchov and three-time World champion Oscar Freire to the Tour of Belgium this coming week. The race runs May 26-30. Rabobank's Denis Menchov will take part in his one and only Classic of the year after the Dutch team announced him in their line-up for Liège–Bastogne–Liège. As expected, Giro d'Italia defending champion Denis Menchov is not on a preliminary list of riders for the race. Menchov, a Russian with the Rabobank team, has said he plans to focus on the Tour de France. Runner-up Danilo Di Luca also will not take part in the race. Russian Denis Menchov (Rabobank) believes the he has a chance of repeating his 2009 Giro d'Italia victory, beating favourites like Astana's Alberto Contador.
